- Intro : Pure Data, also named PD, is a real-time graphical programming environment especially focusing on sound, image and graphic processing. It is also an open source software mainly initiated by Miller Puckette who is also the developer of Max/MSP. PD and Max/MSP are very similar and usually are used in electronic music field. The difference is that PD can do image and audio processing simultaneously by using GEM extension. Besides, PD provides an experimental function of database definition and accessing. The main spirit of Pure Data programming is to treat the data in open-ended way. Therefore, the data can be processed into image or graphic, not only can be processed into sound or MIDI. The functions of Pure Data can be easily extended and the PD developer community is growing rapidly to let PD grow very soon. During the growing time, there are many artists use PD to create interactive work or electronic music.
- This module is going to explore algorithmic music/animation, using algorithm and its relevant knowledge to create medium, generative structure and variations, realtime modulation by controlling and interacting with parameters, data morph and exchange, etc. Aiming in process of experimentation to guide participant's motivation in order to understand digital art by using Pure Data. Encourage participant to demonstrate AudioVisual performance as form of expression.

{C.} sound symbolism & audiobook - pei (TW/Basel)
(no external pic for visual pleasure, as titled)
- Intro : Story-teller is the pre-ancestor of audiobook, it is the carrier of time-space transformation and the media itself. Later on, printing replaced the popularity of such important role of storyteller. When metropolitans became busier and busier in daily life, once again, with the helps of electronic medium, a story was to be listened by ear rather than read by eye. The content and narrative structure of audiobook is then created by a new generation of storyteller. Books, or literature in some cases were simply transformed to an audible speech that read out with a flat tone, of this new generation of storytell. The referential yet semantic conception of sounding constructed a layer of decipher. Give a sentence as example “Vast Ocean of lover's earnestly whispering...” Those words can be read plainly without expressive emotion, allow listener's imagination flying above and engaging with the story. “Vast Ocean” could be a floating sound of waves, “earnestly” tells the soft and eager voice that exchanged between lovers, “'whispering” is a tiny amount of volume firmly, “lover”; the sweetness. If description of each phrase above replaced by an acoustic symbol, each phrase would very much like a movement of piece of music, perhaps, the background jingo of radio drama, or even further, as receptor of listening's feedback, and not merely a rational semantic analysis of phrase or word, the consequences of chained up auditory memory and abstract sensory experiences, listener's personal experience may alter the story itself, of one's very own perception, such additional personal information however can detour from the initial spirit of the story. Both semantic and acoustic symbol has its signifier and signified that indispensable, a moment of soundscape teem with insightful and playful significations are worth of one's further investigation and recomposition. This module involved with listening, soundscape composition, culture of field recording and contemporary music, using four themes to listen to know sound symbols and its application, participator can try to compose audiobook other than early storyteller.
- 1. Acoustic Sign < > Acoustic Signifier
- 2. Acoustic Sign < > Acoustic Signified

{G} Leaving the Screen: Programming for Interactive/Reactive Systems - Zachary Lieberman (US/New York)
openframeworks.cc = openframeworks.tw = openframeworks.jp
- Intro : This module will be a gentle but thorough introduction to code, and how students can use computation to build new systems for interaction that move away from the screen and into physical space. It is taught using openFrameworks (openframeworks.cc), a cross-platform c++ library for creative coding, but also looks at other toolkits and frameworks that helps the creative process and how different systems are connected. We’ll cover the building blocks of code, computational logic, and object-orientated programming, then start putting those pieces to work with systems of computer vision, signal processing, and interfacing with physical devices. In the latter half of the course, participants work to code creative and expressive prototypes based on these approaches.
In addition to the technical side, students weave through examples of the aesthetic and practical applications of the medium, looking for sources of inspiration and challenging our notion of what is possible. Students are recommended to have some familiarity with code (i.e., know what a variable and a function is), but beginners, who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, are totally welcome.

How to built a generic infrastructures of an open community. HONF is located in South East Asia, coming from a developing country which is no support from the local government. Since 10 years ago HONF has been tried to self funded their activities, working with other institutions and facilitating many young communities movements with DIY concepts, inter disciplines and open communities through EFP ( Education Focus Program) The workshops will explain how to built an analog circuit that produce aesthetic works. How to make a works that use full for the environments around, and it will built from the environment it self. The central topics included "Social Chaos", "Data > Information Techonology" & "Knowledge > Wisdom"
- SOCIAL CHAOS – DESTITUTE COUNTRY ( Circle of Satan (COS)– Indonesia)
Circle of Satan is a platform for exchanges, meetings, sharing, discussions and common thinking. It expresses the struggle and disadvantage of a developing country. Whenever opportunity arises, another obstacle defeats progress, in either the form of natural disaster or human corruption. Indonesia still remains one of the poorest nations, with a substantial lack of technology for the public. Is there still a dream possible in the face of chaotic infrastructure, corruption, deforestation, illegal loging, the Pacific ring of fire, sweatshops and globalisation.
- DATA – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ( Education Focus Program (EFP) - HONF)
EFP is a project conceived of by people from and for a developing country. The main goal of the project is to build a modern conception of a future between technology and people. It thus includes activities and research focusing on people, technology, communities and beyond. In order to be effective we must concentrate our efforts on the understanding of the diversity of communities, which are implicated in the relationship between art and technology. This will rely on the effort not only of artists, but also of members of the community. This mutual understanding will in future encourage a positive effect for the community, in general, but particularly concerning new technologies among young people and the public in general.
- KNOWLEDGE – WISDOM ( Lab>>2>>Lab)
We have to learn how to manage those situation especially in the third world countries. We need to put in place rules, protocols, methodologies codes of behavior, cultural facilities, means of governance, treaties and institutions of many types that will enable us too cooperate. A deep wisdom about today situation will be essential. Science and technology are accelerating furiously but wisdom is not. We are brilliant at creating new technology but are not wise in learning how to cope with it. Today, deep reflection about our circumstances is eclipsed by a frenzy of ever more complex techniques and gadgets preoccupation with how to increase shareholder value. The skill/wisdom gap is made greater because the skills offer the ways to get wealthy. Society’s best brains are saturated with immediate issues that become ever more complex.
1. Generic infrastructure >> HONF develop some social devices, and participants can choose one to develop to suit for the local issues.
